_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Girls finally finish 4th after Hoyland just-overtake by one point in their last game away from home.

Well done though, it couldn't have been closer. Best of luck going into U15's next season.

Saturday 1st of March

Maggies 3  v  0 Handsworth

Hoyland are away to Stocksbridge to decide 3rd place in the league.

Technically, a win there would be enough on goal average. So a tense wait for wor-Maggies will last the whole 1st week of March. The girls have taken it right to the wire and credit to them.

A solid battle against that fierce wind in the first half today saw a very solid defensive performance. This didnt prevent them going forward though & after a clear handball in the box - they had a chance to go one up. This was saved though and everything was even going into the break. It setup a really good battle in the second half with the wind in their sails 3 strikes went in to generate some Clinsman type drama.

( Nice belly flops lol )

As the game drew to a close, it leaves tension waiting a result elsewhere. All's not lost though, anything less than win for Hoyland will not be good enough.

Well done girls - a good gritty performance with an element of luck for the 3rd but I'm sure you'll take that after the head-wind you faced in the first half.

Going was very soft & you could almost taste snow in the air it was that bleak before the sun came out.

Let's get down and support the girls better next season - they deserve a big crowd.

Saturday 23rd of February

 Maggies 1  v  4  Killamarsh

The Maggies were looking to continue with the good work shown in last week’s game. However they came up against a very well organised & strong Killamarsh team, who have finished runners-up in the league. Although the girls fought hard & never gave in the Killamarsh girls proved too strong & in the end ran out 4-1 winners. The Maggies struggled to create many chances & their consolation came from Gemma Tollerfield's close range effort. Some excellent defending by Hollie Macdonald earned her the player of the match award. The Maggies must now win their last game of the season to have any hope of grabbing that 3rd spot.

Saturday 16th of February

Stocksbridge 1  v  7  Maggies

After a month without a league fixture the girls travelled to a crisp but sunny Stocksbridge. The Maggies could have been forgiven if there had been a touch of rustiness to their play due to the lack of games. However quite the opposite occurred & a tremendous all round team performance saw the girls storm to a 7-1 victory. The 1st half saw a very even contest with the girls taking their chances to lead 2-0 at the break through a Hayley Hirst double. Hayley's goalscoring didn't stop there & a second half hat-trick saw her finish the game with 5 goals & the player of the match award. The other goalscorers were Gemma Tollerfield & Carly Rowlands. With just 2 games left the girls can still finish 3rd in the table, which would be a tremendous achievement for their 1st season in the 11-a-side league.

What a cracking result girls - Keep going (Best wishes-Editor)

Saturday 26 January

Maggies 1 v 5 Appleby Froddingham (Cup Quarter Final)

The Maggies hosted a team from Scunthorpe who have had big wins all season. The task on paper looked to be a difficult one for the girls & so it proved to be. Kicking against a very strong wind in the 1st half they were a goal down inside the 1st 2 mins. Some good defending & goalkeeping made Appleby work hard but at half-time the Maggies trailed 3-0. With the prospect of a wind assisted 2nd half the girls were still very much in the game. However the wind died & so did the girls chance of reaching another semi-final. A good battling performance was not enough against talented & well organised opposition. The Maggies consolation coming from Carly Rowlands, the pick of the out field players. The player of the match went to Amy Lindop who made some brilliant saves & blocks, especally in the 1st half. A good learning curve for the girls who have now seen 1st hand the kind of opposition they will face next season if they gain promotion.

Saturday 12th of January

Wisewood  1  v  5  Maggies

A wet & windy day saw the girls playing away in Stannington Park. Again after a slow start & going a goal down to the basement side, the girls got their act together & goals from Carly Rowlands & Rebecca Smith saw the Maggies go into half-time 2-1 up. The second half saw a gritty performance from the girls, kicking uphill, getting stronger as the game went on. Further goals from Carly again, Sharni Lewis & Hayley Hirst saw the Maggies home to a comfortable win. Carly Rowlands getting the player of the match for her all round performance.

Saturday 5th of January

Maggies 5  v  1 Thorncliffe

The 1st game of the New Year saw the girls at home to a side who have been improving all season. The 1st 10 mins saw the visitors have the majority of the game without ever troubling the Maggies goal. The girls slowly took control of the game & the result was never in danger, as a goal in each half from both Hayley Hirst & Carly Rowlands, plus a second half own goal, saw the girls home to an impressive win.

Another good all round team performance with Jessica "Badge" Barringer claiming the player of the match award for her excellent display at the heart of the defence. It was also a debut for Frankie Horan-Gregory (welcome to the Maggies), bringing the current squad number to 16. All played at least 30 mins & contributed to a great start to the New Year !!

Saturday 8th December

Hoyland Common Falcons 3  v  2  Maggies

A freezing, wet & windy day welcomed the Maggies to their hosts. After a dodgy first 10 mins where the girls struggled to cope with the conditions,

& found themselves a goal down, they rallied & went in at half-time 2-1 ahead.

The first 15 minutes of the second half saw the girls play some excellent football, probably the best they have played all season, but they could not

turn their possession to goals. Hoyland fought back scoring 2 goals to send the girls home with no points. A brilliant all round performance that deseved

at least a point.

Well done Girls !!

The scorers for the Maggies were Hayley Hirst & Gemma Tollerfield, With Becky Smith getting the player of the match for her non stop work

& being at the heart of most of the good football played.

Saturday 1st of December

Maggies 2  v  1 Millmoor (cup 2nd round)

The Maggies played in the cup for the first time, against Div 1 oppositon. Due to injuries & illness Millmoor were only able to field 9 players. This did not stop them causing the Maggies numerous problems & pushing the girls all the way, with the winner coming in the final 5 minutes. Millmoor even having to go down to 8 players in the 2nd half due to an injured player. Credit must go to their team who battled all the way. The maggies scorers were, player of the match Sharni Lewis & Hayley Hirst.

Saturday 24th November

Maggies  3  v  5  Whiston Wildcats

After a 2 week break the girls had a very tough game against the top side in the division, who were unbeaten all season.
A brilliant performance by the girls was just not enough to at least get the point their efforts deserved.
The "Maggies" matched them all the way but 2 goals in the final 7 minutes by Whiston proved to much in the end.
Goalscorers for the "Maggies" were Hayley Hirst (2) & Gemma Tollerfield, with a 20 yard strike. Player of the match went to goalkeeper Amy Lindop
who made some brave saves & blocks to keep the game alive.

Saturday 3 November

Killamarsh Juniors  5 v 2  Maggies

The top 2 met in the game of the day & it was the team in 2nd place that deservedly took the honours with a 5-2 victory. The Maggies never got going in a match they were always behind in, & some good football from the home side proved too much for the girls on the day. To the Maggies credit they never gave in & battled to the end. The scorers being Hayley Hirst & Player of the Match, Carly Rowlands (pen). Amy Lindop in the Maggies goal saved a penalty to keep the scoreline down.

Saturday 27 October

Eckington Belles 1 v 3 Maggies

A re-arranged fixture due to both clubs having a bye in the 1st round of the cup. The girls dominated the game from start to finish & deserved more than the 2 goal cushion the final score gave. An entertaining game saw the “Maggies” play some good football on a tight pitch, with  both wide players in midfield playing particularly well. Either Robyn Stothard or Becky Smith could have got the Player of the Match, with Robyn just getting the award. The goal scorers were Hayley Hirst (2), & Carly Rowlands (pen).

Saturday 20 October

Maggies 10 v 0 Wisewood

Top played bottom in today’s fixture, & this was reflected in the final scoreline, with the girls dominating the game from start to finish, eventually running out comfortable 10-0 winners. Praise must go to the Wisewood girls who never gave up & battled to the end even though the “Maggies” proved too strong. The scorers were Hayley Hirst (3), Carly Rowlands (3), Emily Dearden (3) & Gemma Tollerfield. Player of the Match was Emily Dearden who controlled the game in midfield & grabbed a deserved hat-trick.

Saturday 13 October

Thorncliffe 2 v 5 Maggies

After playing teams at the top of the league, the girls found themselves playing for the first time as the division leaders, away at Thorncliffe. After an edgy start the “Maggies” took control of the game & were ahead at half-time 4-1. The second half proved to be a much more even contest, the girls eventually winning 5-2, with goals from Hayley Hirst (3), & Carly Rowlands (2). The player of the match being Hayley Hirst, not only for her hat-trick, but her all round contribution to the team.

Saturday 6th October

Maggies 2 v 0 Stocksbridge Park Steels

For the second time in three weeks the girls found themselves playing at home against the top of the league. This time the opposition being Stocksbridge Park Steels & again the girls responded with another excellent performance resulting in a 2-0 win. A very evenly matched game of few chances saw the "Maggies" triumph with goals from Hayley Hirst & Emily Dearden. Special mention must go to the defence who again were outstanding, especially centre halves Megan Stott & Jessica "Badge" Barringer, with Megan just getting the vote of Player of the Match.

Saturday 29 September

Handsworth 1 v 1  Maggies

A hard fought game at Handsworth brought the girls another point in a 1-1 draw. A below par start to the game looked to have undone all the good work the girls had done at the start of the season, but a brilliant solo effort from Sharni Lewis drew the girls level & saw an improvement on the pitch. In a very even second half neither team created any clear cut chances & a draw was a fair result at the end of the game. Player of the match was Fabienne Dronfield who defended well, in an unusual position for her, at left back.

Saturday 22 September

Maggies 3 v 1  Hoyland Common Falcons

The girls were at home to a high flying Hoyland Common Falcons side that had won their opening 2 games 8-0 & 8-1.On paper it looked to be a difficult task ahead for the girls to get a result & so it proved against good opposition . However another brilliant all round team performance saw the "Maggies" come out on top with a 3-1 scoreline. The defence in particular were outstanding as Hoyland tried to get back into the game, with "Maggies" keeper Amy Lindop making one or two vital blocks. The girls kept playing good football & got their just rewards in the end. The hero of the day being Hayley Hirst with a hat-trick, which earned her the player of the match award.

Saturday 15 September

Whiston Wildcats 6  v  4 Maggies

The girls played away against a much more experienced Whiston Wildcats side (they playedin the 11-a-side league last season). They gave another good account of themselves & had it not been for 10 minutes lack of concentration at the start of the 2nd half, where Whiston scored 3 goals, they may have come away with at least a point, but unfortunately lost 6-4. On a sweltering morning the girls battled well with some outstanding displays. The player of the match going to Carly Rowlands, who scored a hat-trick. The other goal was scored by Hayley Hirst.

8th September

Maggies 5  v  1 Eckington

The girls U14 season got underway on Saturday. In this their 1st season at 11-a-side they entertained Eckington Belles at home. A brilliant display by all the team resulted in a 5-1 win. A result which had it not been for the Eckington keeper would have been considerably more. The scorers were Hayley Hirst (2), Carly Rowlands (2) & Rebecca Smith. The player of the Match was Sophie Guest, although any one of the 15 players could have won it they played that well.
