HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Beighton on the South-East side of the city of Sheffield is an ancient Anglo-Saxon settlement. It is mentioned twice in the domesday survey of 1086.

At one time we had a lord of the manor, to whom we paid rents & the village was surrounded by fields.
There was also a castle & a queen in our midst. The queen was the queen of gypsies who is buried in the church yard.

Beighton Magpies Junior Football Club was formed in 1988 as Sothall Leisure, for boys & girls from the village of Beighton & the local townships.

The club was started with a donation of  £1000 GBP or very roughly $2000 US Dollars at today’s rate by Mr. Bob Janoway who owned the Sothall Club.

We started with only four football teams which were sponsored by Hitachi & used to train at Sothall club gymnasium which is now a snooker hall.

The teams were entered & still are in the Sheffield & District Sunday Junior League.

Most teams played on the Emmanuel school fields, Frechville & Westfield school, before we moved to the Beighton Miners Welfare in the late 1990's.

As teams grow in stature, most teams reach a good level of football & are relatively high in league status but always, looking to do better.

 PRESENT  DAY

We now have progressed to one of the largest local Junior Football teams in the area and at the present day

have over 200 registered Football Players ranging between Nursery age of 5/6 year old to include a Senior team featuring in the Meadowhall League up amongst the highest standards.

We now proudly include 2 Girl's & a Ladies team who like everyone involved with the club are developing & trying their best to improve. We have our own team colours & exclusive design.

The Black and White stripes of the Magpies are very distinctive.

The important thing is we now have a good base at the Beighton Welfare Club [ formerly Beighton Sports & Leisure].

This is where we will be holding our monthly meetings and where most of our teams play their football, but we still have several teams not playing here.

So we hope that with some development we can make it our home base for all our teams.

 CLUB AIM's

Develop the home-ground & also retain Charter Standard with the County F.A.

Providing a continuation of our support to junior football in Beighton & the surrounding townships. Progress with their development

& introduce more girls’ teams within the club having recently dropped to running just the one.

To be able to provide anyone who comes to our club the opportunity to fulfil their ambitions & then guide them in the right direction.

To have the resources available for any person wishing to gain academic status in the field of sport i.e. coaching / refereeing

In order for a club of this size to ensure that it meets the standards required by the F.A. and Sheffield & Hallamshire County Football Association

the club still needs numerous willing volunteers ~ to assist in various ways. Any Parents / Grandparents who are interested

please liaise with the club chairman / secretary or email the editor.

Round-up

The club is run by an elected committee which is elected annually at the A.G.M.

This consists of a Chairperson / Secretary / Treasurer / Child Protection Officer / Team Managers & Parents Representatives.
